April

Tuesday 8th at 2pm. Dr Johnson's House, London, where he compiled the first English dictionary. By arrangement with the Dr Johnson's House Trust. (limited to 20 members).

Wednesday 23rd at 2.30pm. High Down, Pirton. Built by Thomas Docwra around 1600, later owned by the Delme-Radcliffe family, by kind permission of Mr Tim Dye (limited to 15 members).

May

Tuesday 6th at 2.30pm. Southill Park, Biggleswade. Country mansion remodelled by Henry Holland in the Regency period, by kind permission of Mr Charles Whitbread (limited to 50 members).

Thursday 15th at 2pm. St Paul's Walden Bury, St Paul's Walden. Childhood home of the Queen Mother with gardens designed by Sir Geoffrey Jellcoe, by kind permission of Mr Simon Bowes Lyon (limited to 30 members).

Tuesday 20th at 7.30pm. Maydencroft Manor, Gosmore. A beautiful home connected with King Henry VIII and 'Bunyan's Barn', by kind permission of Mr Robert Williams (limited to 20 members).

June

Tuesday 24th at 7.30pm. Wymondley Priory, Little Wymondley. A fascinating medieval house and impressive tithe barn, by kind permission of Mr John Hope (limited to 25 members). Unfortunately this visit has had to be postponed.

July

Tuesday 8th at 2pm. Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Cambridge. Includes archive material about Hitchin from the Ransom collection, by arrangement with the Curator, Anne Taylor (limit of 15 members).

Friday 18th at 7.30pm. Hitchin Lavender, Ickleford, to see the fields in full colour as well as examples of lavender products, by arrangment with Mr Alec Hunter (limited to 20 members).

August

Thursday 21st at 10.15am. Gorhambury, St Albans. Neo-Palladian mansion, including the Elizabethan collection of Francis Bacon, by kind permission of The Earl of Verulam (limited to 30 members).

September

Sunday 7th at 2pm. Archaeological walk around Hitchin by Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews of the Museum Service. Based on Keith's comprehensive article in the Anniversary Journal (limited to 20 members).

Sunday 14th at 2.30pm. Tewin Orchard, Tewin. A guided country walk, including the Hitchin Pippin apple, by Michael Clarke of the Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (limited to 20 members).

Wednesday 24th at 7.30 pm. Hitchin Museum. A behind-the-scenes visit to see the extensive collection, by arrangement with the Curator, David Hodges (Limited to 15 members).
