Robert Frederic Ashby, the Librarian and Curator of Hitchin Library and Museum from 1938 to 1940 and from 1946 to 1950, has died aged 103. He was a Horsa glider pilot in WW2 who survived all three of the major European airborne landings, and ended his career as Surrey’s County Librarian.
