The Society was saddened to note the death, on 31st August, of Barrie Dack.
For many years Barrie was crucial to the production of a range of substantial Society publications on Hitchin’s history, totalling over a dozen volumes in all. He had a wealth of experience on the layout, illustration and printing of texts which transformed the hard work of our authors into attractive and saleable volumes. He worked particularly closely with our former Chairman and President, Scilla Douglas, and Librarian and publication guru, Pauline Humphries, and made a very real contribution to the success of the Society.
Barrie’s Memorial on 28th September, at the North Hertfordshire Crematorium, Holwell, was attended by a number of Society members.
