Hitchin History Leaflet No 1

Anthony M Foster

The Biggin has a fascinating history stretching back to the 14th century when a Gilbertine Order was founded in Hitchin. Much of the Order’s early history is lost, and little of the original building survives – the present building is largely a late 16th century rebuild. Tony Foster’s short but thorough leaflet was a welcome publication in the early days of Hitchin Historical Society. Reprinted in 1997, second-hand copies are hard to come by!

This leaflet is currently out of print, but you can view a pdf copy by clicking HERE.
