Indoor Meetings : Talks are held on the fourth Thursday of most months starting at 8pm in Church House, Churchyard, Hitchin.  See below for more details of upcoming talks. Click HERE to see all 2026 meetings.

Hitchin Festival events : throughout July Hitchin holds its annual festival of events. HHS includes its own series of walks and lectures for everyone to join in. Click here to see a full summary of the events.

Outings : HHS arranges visits to local buildings and institutions, many of which are not normally open to the general public. There are also trips further afield, at reasonable charges to cover costs, to places of historical interest. Click on the link for full details. The outings fill up quickly so act now to avoid disappointment.

At Indoor Meetings a guest speaker presents, usually with illustrations, on an aspect of local history. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start and light refreshments will be served following each talk.  The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and you will be made warmly welcome. Members free, visitors are welcome but there is a small charge of £2.00

HHS Library – A selection of publications, mostly Hitchin themed and some of which have been produced by members, are generally also available at these meetings for short term loan.  Doors open at 7.30pm so come along early and browse.
